Player Ratings: Liverpool's 1-0 win over Real Betis in their opening pre-season match

The start of a new “era” for Liverpool under new manager Arne Slots was a close call, with the first step taken well, with a 1-0 win over Manuel Pellegrini’s Real Betis, thanks to a Dominik Szoboszlai goal.

Liverpool Player Ratings

Caoimhin Kelleher – 6 – Had a quiet first half, with Betis having little chance to press forward before the break.

Kostas Tsimikas – 7 – Focused more on holding down the position rather than helping Fabio Carsalho on the left flank.

Sepp van den Berg – 7 – He has been the subject of much acclaim since returning to the Reds and has been impressive, making important interceptions and winning aerial balls, despite his 2m height of just a cubit.

Jarrell Quansah – 7 – A regular starter, he has a calm and composed play, is a deep-lying passer and has no mistakes to make.

Conor Bradley – 6 – Like Tsimikas, he focuses on staying solid in defence first and rarely sees himself pushing forward.

Wataru Endo – 6 – Had a good shot with his left foot in the 11th minute but was unable to control the direction and missed the frame. Overall, he was not outstanding and lacked some points, so he was substituted at the start of the second half.

Dominik Szoboszlai – 8 – Despite not being involved much in the middle of the pitch, he found a way through the first half hour and scored the decisive goal.

Curtis Jones – 5 – Unlucky as he was forced off with just half an hour to play, after a few passes, despite being substituted as a precaution.

Fabio Carvalho – 5 – Not an impressive game, had a few chances to show off his skills, mostly just passing the ball forward, although he was useful in dropping back to help out in defence.

Mohamed Salah – 7 – In his new skinhead image and wearing the armband, Salah provided 1 assist for the pass to Soboszlai who scored the goal to make it 1-0, but he has almost no chance of scoring himself.

Harvey Elliott – 6 – Has switched positions with Salah on a number of occasions, but his small size makes him a difficult opponent when playing against centre-backs.
